Seventeen: My first KPOP concert

2 weeks ago, my bestie (Yey) went with me to watch SB19 in Hong Kong, our first travel since 2019. While planning that trip I told her I’d watch a KPOP concert with her too as a thank you, and surprise surprise Seventeen announces a HK concert we could go to a few days later.

So here we are all packed with another set of plane tickets, of a hotel booking, of vacation leave (for her). Impulsive? Definitely.

Disclaimer: I will probably make this about SB19 more than the acceptable amount hehe ✌🏻

The diff with SB19

Both had 2 day back to back sold out concerts and Seventeen is obviously a bigger artist. It shows from all the ads all over Hong Kong to the capacity (SB19 was 2k-ish, Seventeen was 50k). From the commute going to the stadium it was overwhelmingly obvious who are Seventeen fans and Yey was very hyped up about it.

The whole day I was daydreaming for a day like this for SB19 ☀️. Bigger venue. Bigger budget for production. More diverse fans. More photocards and grander merch attached on our bags.

It was a day spent going around the stadium lining up for things, under the hot sun. The back of my legs were sunburnt and bestie almost needed to go to the medic after lining up for the merch. I don’t know how we survived that 🔥🥵

I am so intrigued with how the baddies who wore high heels and boots survived this day 💅🏼. There were a lot. So many good fits and good makeup. It was a fun day to be a girl surrounded by feminine energy 🫂.

The one thing I think could be better would be the food. There were only a few options once you get inside (and we needed to get inside early to line up for merch). All that’s available were just chips and popcorn. Once inside the actual stadium we only saw one food stall but we were also not able to line up because the show’s about to start. In short: we did not eat for a long time that day 🤡

I went as a casual

Unlike bestie who made more effort in getting to know SB19, I failed to get to know Seventeen before the concert. I’d like to say it’s the language barrier and maybe it’s a part of it, mostly I was just busy trying to put in all the work I can before going MIA again.

I had this idea in my head that I had to choose a bias. Solely because the immigration IO might ask questions why we are going to HK again after two weeks.

In my little attempt, I liked this one member’s visual and just my luck he’s one of the members who won’t attend this world tour (military service). After that I still couldn’t find a bias and realized I did not want to rush this.

My concert experience

Concert 🫱🏼‍🫲🏽 Fashion show

This concert made me so hyped up for SB19’s upcoming anniversary concert: Fast Zone. It will be fashion show in collaboration with Francis Libian. And no one knows what to expect.

And this Seventeen concert just happens to start with just that, a runway for the members. And then there’s also Mingyu’s solo performance which gave that energy. He was just exerting aura during the whole song and it was captivating.

Indoor Fireworks 🎆

And it wasn’t just once, it was in almost every song. One of the highlights for me.

Bestie said she expected more though because it was common for Seventeen concerts to have outdoor fireworks.

The rest of the production was also topnotch. The moving stages. The LED visuals. The lights. The dancers. Hindi tinipid and that’s all that I ask for.

My experience

A lot of their songs sound like rock music 🤘🏼, This was unexpected and I had so much fun because of it. I also liked that some of the members played instruments (guitar, piano, drums).

My favorite solo was probably Vernon’s because it was so simple. No backup dancers. No other person on stage. Just him and his simple clothes and a guitar. It felt like he was just being himself and I am glad he was allowed to have that moment.

I also liked the solo of Jun, S.Coops and Mingyu

In terms of dancing, I liked Minghao and Vernon. I feel like I was not able to appreciate their dance as much as I’d like to because we were so far away and at the side.

I liked their energy in the end when they were saying goodbye. They had so much time to be playful. One kept on running around. One kept on getting the camera man’s attention. I did not understand most of what they were saying. I was also already running low on my social battery, but everyone else was still hyped up. I was not expecting my bestie to forget her fear of heights when they asked us to stand up. Everyone, including the boys, were just happy to be there.

I will remember this night.
